General:

Aviation Route Maps presents route and enroute airport information over satellite imagery. Due to the nature of mercator projection maps, the east/west scale will be distorted at high latitudes. Also, please note that the maps are created using different scales for different regions in order to prevent clutter over densely detailed areas.

Revision Details:

The current revision is 01NOV07. This revision has added new maps to cover the
polar and north american routes.

Downloading:

To download a map, go to the get maps page and click the map name on the left side menu or on the map thumbnail.

This opens the file download window. Click save and choose the location on your computer that you would like to save the file. The maps are saved on your computer in a .zip folder.

Once you have finished downloading the file, double click on the .zip folder you have just created and you will see the map .jpeg file. It is recommended to cut and paste this file to a location outside of the .zip folder. You can then delete the .zip folder. The file sizes vary between 5 to 15 megabytes.

Viewing:

To view the maps, double click on the .jpeg file or open the file with any appropriate picture viewing software. The maps are very detailed and can be zoomed in significantly without loss of quality.

Printing:

These maps have been optimized for printing on A4 size glossy photo paper.

Depending on your printer, you will likely see a message informing you that the image is larger than the paper's printable area and that some clipping will occur. First, try ignoring this message and printing the map. The map should print normally without any clipping of content. If in fact some clipping has occured and parts of the map or border are not visible, re-print the map, this time allowing the printer to re-scale the map to the paper size.

For printing I use the "Canon PIXMA iP8500" photo printer with "Konica Professional Photo Double-Sided Glossy Paper" with excellent results.
